Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
This policy explains what highlit, operated by Martin Sojka s. r. o. ("we", "us"), collects, how we use it, and who we share it with. We aim to collect only what we need to run the Service.
Information we collect
- Account data — your email address and the basic profile information your sign-in provider (Google or GitHub) shares, such as your name, a provider ID, and, for GitHub, your public profile URL.
- Code and explainers — the snippets you submit and the explainers generated from them, including titles, decks, tags, and the walkthrough steps.
- Payment data — purchases are processed by Paddle. We don't see or store your full card details; we receive confirmation of the transaction and a customer reference.
- Technical data — basic logs (such as IP address and browser) needed to operate and secure the Service.
How we use it
We use your information to generate explainers, manage your account and credits, send service-related email, provide support, and keep the Service secure and working.
How your code is processed
To produce an explainer, we send a copy of your snippet to our AI provider, Anthropic, via its Claude API. Generated images (social cards and PNG exports) are stored on Amazon Web Services (S3). Your code is used to provide your explainer — it is not sold, and it is not used to train AI models.
Publishing
Explainers are unlisted by default. If you choose to make one public, it appears in our library and can be accessed and indexed by anyone, including search engines. Don't publish anything you wouldn't want to be public.
Service providers
We rely on a small set of trusted providers to run the Service:
- Anthropic — AI explainer generation.
- Amazon Web Services — image storage (S3) and outbound email (SES).
- Paddle — payment processing as Merchant of Record.
- Google / GitHub — sign-in.
Data retention
We keep your explainers so you can revisit, share, and embed them. They remain until you delete them or your account. Deleting your account removes your explainers and account data. Note that content that has been public may persist in caches or search indexes outside our control even after deletion.
Your rights
You can access and update your account details, and delete your account and its data, from your account settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data — to exercise them, email us at hello@highlit.co.
Cookies
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
International transfers
Our providers process data in the United States. By using the Service, you understand your data may be processed there and elsewhere our providers operate.
Children
The Service isn't intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the date above when we do.
