Terms of Service
Last updated: June 17, 2026
These Terms govern your use of highlit (the "Service"), operated by Martin Sojka s. r. o. ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. The Service
highlit turns code snippets you submit into interactive explainer pages — a step-by-step walkthrough with narration, line highlighting, and takeaways, generated by an AI model. The explanation is an automated, educational opinion; it is not professional advice, and we don't guarantee it is accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose. Review the output and use your own judgement.
2. Accounts
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. You sign in through Google or GitHub — keep those accounts secure, as anyone with access to them can access yours. You're responsible for all activity under your account.
3. Credits and payment
New accounts receive a number of free credits. Additional credits are purchased in packs through our payment provider, Paddle, who acts as the Merchant of Record for your purchase and handles billing and applicable taxes. Credits never expire, have no cash value, and are not transferable or redeemable for money.
Each explainer you generate consumes one credit; sharing, embedding, and exporting are free. If something goes wrong while generating an explainer, email us at hello@highlit.co and we'll make it right.
You may request a refund within 14 days of your purchase by contacting us at hello@highlit.co or our payment provider, Paddle. Refunds are returned to your original payment method.
4. Your code and content
You keep all ownership of the code you submit and the explainers generated from it. By submitting code, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit it solely to provide the Service — including sending it to our AI provider to generate your explainer. You confirm that you own or have the rights to every snippet you submit and that doing so doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
5. Publishing and visibility
Explainers are unlisted by default — reachable only by people you share the link with. You control each explainer's visibility from your account. Making an explainer public adds it to our library and makes it publicly accessible and indexable by search engines. Only publish code you have the right to share publicly. Once content has been public, copies may persist in caches or search indexes outside our control even after you change its visibility or delete it.
6. Acceptable use
Don't submit content that is illegal, infringing, or that you don't have the right to share. Don't abuse, reverse-engineer, overload, or attempt to disrupt the Service, and don't use it to violate anyone's rights or the law.
7. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, and brand, belongs to us. These Terms don't grant you any rights to our trademarks or content beyond using the Service as intended.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. We don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that explainers will meet your expectations.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. You can delete your account and associated data from your account settings.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Slovakia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
